Thank you for contacting me about easing restrictions on angling.
The outbreak of the coronavirus has had a significant effect on communities across the country. The restrictions that had been put in place to reduce the spread of the virus have changed our way of life but I believe that the British people have adapted to them with courage and fortitude.
The benefits of sports and outdoor activity are well-known and I read the report that you sent to me with interest. I believe that it is particularly important that we continue to look after our physical and mental wellbeing during this time. The safety of the public is paramount, however, and this must be the Government’s overriding concern as we take the first cautious steps towards easing the restrictions.
Starting on 13 May, there will be a cautious easing of the restrictions on outdoor activities in England. People can now exercise outdoors as many times a day as they wish. Outdoor activities that can be enjoyed while adhering to social distancing, including angling, will now be permitted with members of your household, and one person from outside your household. People may now also drive to outdoor open spaces irrespective of distance, so long as they respect social distancing guidance while they are there.
Thank you again for taking the time to contact me.
