Thank you for contacting me about funding for the Fire and Rescue Authorities.
It is right to say that throughout the pandemic, fire and rescue services across the country have played an essential role in the national effort to tackle Coronavirus. This includes helping other emergency services, aiding vulnerable people and supporting the NHS. It is important to remember that this is of course on top of their usual vital firefighting duties.
I can assure you that Fire and Rescue Authorities have the necessary funding to respond to incidents. The 2020 Spending Review increased funding for fire services across local authorities in line with inflation.
The Government published the final Settlement for 2021/22 on the 3rd February, including a 2 per cent referendum principle for all fire and rescue authorities. This decision was made after careful consideration of all consultation responses received in response to the provisional settlement. These referendum proposals were approved by the House of Commons on the 10 February, confirming that standalone FRAs’ core spending power will increase next year by 2.6 per cent.
I hope this clarifies the commitment to the Fire and Rescue Authorities, and I will continue to engage with Ministers.
Thank you again for taking the time to contact me.
