Free government support for exporters in Calder Valley will be outlined to businesses by local MP Craig Whittaker, to help them take advantage of international opportunities and to tap into the huge global demand for British products.
By organising a series of events through 2021, Craig Whittaker MP is helping businesses in Calder Valley to start or grow international sales and showcase the Best of British goods.
UK Exports worth £569.8bn were sold overseas in the 12 months to July 2021, with 149,500 UK businesses exporting goods in 2020. Trade Agreements continue to be reached by the Department for International Trade, and Craig Whittaker MP is determined to help local companies take advantage of these and thrive in the high growth markets of the future, create high quality jobs and help the local area recover after the Covid crisis.
The latest research shows exports support 6.5m jobs across the UK, 74% of which are outside London. The research estimates jobs directly and indirectly supported by exports pay around 7% more than the national median, with Office for National Statistics estimating that goods exporting businesses are also 21% more productive.
Craig Whittaker MP is working with the Department for International Trade (DIT), as part of the Parliamentary Export Programme, to help local businesses access the free support they need to boost their exporting potential and understand the effects of trade agreements and how to benefit from them.
This session will provide Calder Valley businesses an opportunity to speak to and hear speakers from the Department for International Trade, and an experienced local exporter who will detail the support available for businesses to expand their business overseas.
Craig Whittaker MP said:
"Helping local businesses rebound from the pandemic is one of my top priorities. That's why I'm delighted to be hosting this event with the aim to protect jobs and give businesses in my constituency access to information, advice and finance to sell internationally.
“The event I’m organising is free and all businesses need to do is register on the link below. Experts and experienced exporters will provide advice including on government-supported working capital and the practicalities of post-Brexit trade.
“Whether a business is new to exporting, has exported in the past or is a current exporter, participating in the programme will equip them with the support and tools they need to begin or continue their exporting journey. “
Craig Whittaker MP is a founding member of the Parliamentary Export Programme where selected cross-party MPs organise and chair virtual meetings with experts from business and government to support local businesses in their exporting journey.
