Last week the Government updated its ‘Contain Framework’, which now allows Councils to select specific geographical areas for targeted interventions.
Presently, the whole Borough of Calderdale is being made subject to additional measures, despite the fact that consistent heightened infection rates remain present within the confines of only a small number of specific geographical areas.
Every Conservative Councillor on Calderdale Council has joined me to lobby the Council for a more localised, more targeted, and more agile approach to areas with higher infection rates without impeding areas with low transmission rates.
This open letter has been sent this afternoon to the Leader of the Council and its Chief Executive.
We are calling on the Council to define specific geographical areas for additional measures.
Only by adopting a targeted approach can we create a logical, efficient and equitable strategy to stop the spread of the virus whilst protecting our local economy.
