Glasses have been clinking at The Honest John Bar & Coffee Tavern in Todmorden, with the bar being voted by the public as Calder Valley’s Pub/Restaurant of the Year 2021.
The competition has been hosted by Craig Whittaker MP, Calder Valley’s Member of Parliament. This is the first year that the competition has been held, and over 1500 people voted for their favourite pub or restaurant.
Craig Whittaker said that the competition was a close result, and over 20 local venues had been nominated. The competition was well received, and he said local night life was thriving in the Calder Valley which is a testament to local business owners and their staff.
As victors, The Honest John were presented with a trophy and a House of Commons bottle of whisky. The Sun Inn (Rastrick), The Fleece Countryside Inn (Barkisland), The Booth Wood Inn (Rishworth), and Café Thai (West Vale) were runners-up.
Craig said:
Calder Valley’s Pub/Restaurant of the Year was a roaring success. I would like to congratulate the winner, runners-up and all those pubs nominated. I would also like to thank the members of the public who voted for their favourite venue.
It is vital that we back our local pubs and restaurants. They support communities and employ local people. The competition promoted pubs and restaurants across the Calder Valley, but most of all, it was fun!
Whilst there had to be a winner, I would like to thank all the local pubs and restaurants who got involved. They are clearly valued by all across the Calder Valley.
As a former publican myself, I know how challenging hospitality can be. We should all be proud to have such a diverse local offering. The success of our local hospitality trade is a credit to those whom work within hospitality or support the sector with their custom.
This year was incredibly competitive, and Calder Valley’s Pub/Restaurant of the Year will return later this year!”
