The Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport have just announced that awards have been approved in Round 3 of the Government’s Culture Recovery Fund.
The BFI has been responsible for assessing applications and managing the fund’s allocation to independent cinemas across the country, and I am delighted that they will be awarding Round 3 funding to support The Rex Cinema in Elland.
The Rex, Elland has been awarded £61,482 in Round 3 funding, which brings the total amount awarded to them across all rounds from the Fund to £145,361.
Culture creates jobs, supports livelihoods, and brings joy to everyone. The UK leads the world in the creative industries and we can all feel pride in that.
Now, in these challenging times, it’s everybody’s turn to show our support for culture. With an unprecedented investment through the Culture Recovery Fund, the government is #HereForCulture so it can continue to weather the storm of coronavirus and come back stronger.
This cinema venue plays an important social role in the local community, bringing people together and providing them with a focal point and space where they can enjoy culture and engage with others. For many living in deprived or rural areas, their nearest cinema can be a lifeline as they run many complementary activities and support other local initiatives, so it was crucial that we ensure their survival.
