Following Healthwatch Calderdale’s report into the experiences of adults with hypermobility syndromes published in July, the MP for Calder Valley, Craig Whittaker tabled a debate in parliament on Monday 7 October highlighting the findings of the report and calling for action. Craig stressed that hypermobile EDS (hEDS) and hypermobility spectrum disorder (HSD) are specifically excluded from the highly specialised rheumatology service commissioned by NHS England. He also talked passionately about the significant struggles of patients with these conditions just to be believed. A full transcript of the session can be viewed here. The GP toolkit developed by Ehlers-Danlos Support UK and the Royal College of GPs was mentioned in responding comments by Jo Churchill MP for Bury St Edmunds and Parliamentary Under-Secretary for Health and Social Care, who highlighted the need for improvements in communication and information-sharing within the health service.
